The Last Album of Frank Zappa to Be Released on 1 June
The last Frank Zappa's album, recorded before he died in 1993, is to be released on 1 June this year, media report. Named “Dance Me This”, the album is part of an extensive, hundred-release discography which started in 1966 with the album “Freak Out”. It has been previously announced that the album will come out on April Fools Say. However, the release was postponed.
Frank Zappa died in December 1993 after a lost battle with the prostate cancer. He was only 52 years old. In an interview with Guitarist Magazine before he died, Zappa said that he was working on an album called “Dance Me This” and described it as “a Synclavier album which is designed to be used by modern dance groups.” He also added that “Dance Me This” would probably not come out “until next year”.
A number of albums were released by the Zappa Estate following his death, most notably in the last ten years. Talks about “Dance Me This” coming out have been circling around for years, and there have been rumors that promo cassettes were in circulation in 2004. The album, however, did not see the light of day at that time.
According to an email from the Zappa family, the album is “the last title FZ finished in 1993 along with Trance-Fusion; the last chapter in his Master Work, Civilization, Phase III; and of course, The Rage & The Fury, The Music of Edgard Varèse.”
