Kendrick Lamar Finally Has A Number One Album With “To Pimp A Butterfly”
“To Pimp A Butterfly” is the number one selling album in the U.S.
Many had predicted that the sales of Kendrick’s new album will be down given the fact that it was leaked but it turns out not too many people looked for the leaked product.
The leak forced the album release to be moved from March 27th to March 16th.
Billboard is reporting that “To Pimp A Butterfly” sold more than 324,000 units in its first week, a very respectable number for an artist who has not been in the mainstream media for that long. This figure has also surparsed the sales of Kendrick’s first album, good kid, m.A.A.d city which in addition to selling only 241,000 earned the rapper Grammy nominations.
As at now fans have received the new album very positively with many of them taking to their social media accounts such as Twitter and Facebook so as to praise the work that was put in the album and especially his hit song i in which he questions, “How many n—-s we done lost, bro? It shouldn’t be shit for us to come out here and appreciate the little bit of life we got left.”
With regards to what exactly inspired him while coming up with “To Pimp A Butterfly” Kendrick said that he was focusing on the next sound.
“If I keep focusing on, ‘I need to make something better than good kid,’ it’s going to be just that. That’s not challenging yourself. I don’t want to become that person reflecting on what has been done. What I’m doing now is the question. I’m only as good as my last word, my last hook, my last bridge.”
